SUCCESS: Significant Discount on Doors for Base-Bahay’s 21 Duplex Houses

Background

Thanks to Matimco Incorporated, the construction of Base-Bahay’s, Inc.’Bamboo Village is further progressing. We are happy to announce that the company gave a 20% discount for the purchase of over 70 high quality wooden doors which will be utilized in the construction of the 21 duplex houses.

Base Bahay has developed a series of ongoing and upcoming construction projects with affordable and sustainable housing solutions to accommodate the urban poor. Hence, there are many more opportunities for industry partners to step up and make a difference by giving a discount or a donation for building materials.

A brief snapshot how the partnership evolved: the first contact between Base-Bahay and Matimco was initiated by FairBuilding in early 2016, when we informed several suppliers including Matimco about the construction of twenty-one (21) duplex bamboo houses in Bagong Silangan, Quezon City. Matimco replied to our call for help and committed to our standard to provide materials with a 20% discount. Ultimately we introduced Matimco to Base-Bahay and the two discussed and finalised the deal.

FairBuilding is very proud to have enabled this collaboration between Matimco Incorporated and Base-Bahay’s, Inc. which showcases an excellent example of a win-win situation for all partners involved.

Project Summary

Base-Bahay’s, Inc. has received a 20% discount for the purchase of 76 doors from Matimco Incorporated which will be utilised in the construction of 21 duplex houses in Bagong Silangan, Quezon City.

The doors have been already delivered and will be installed at the end of April 2016.

Impact of the Project

The new Bamboo homes will be turned over in April 2016 to displaced families in Payatas. Those families have been evacuated from the waste landfill in Payatas, which is Manila’s main garbage dumpsite mounting as high as seven stories in some places. Impoverished informal settlers, comprising many children, live in the area and pick through the dump to obtain items they can sell. The families staying in the area are inclined to many life, health and security risks.

More than 40 families will be relocated from Payatas to the Bamboo Village in Bagong Silangan, Quezon City. The success of this project will free these families from risks they are forced to deal with as they live in Payatas. They will be less prone to health hazards caused about by the dump of waste right across their present homes. Also, relocating these families empowers them to live lives safe from the effects of criminal acts, and disasters among others.

The building of these duplex houses is an opportunity for Matimco to be associated in a project-for-a-cause. By acquiring 20% reduction on the price of doors from Matimco, Base-Bahay can maximize their resources and allocate the discounted cost of buying other supplies needed in completing the project.
